About ASU
Safety is the key priority factor for WFP Aviation. It is focused on selecting air operators who meet the highest standards of safety. WFP Aviation has been recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs) and a large number of air carriers as a legitimate body that assists in the dissemination of the latest safety initiatives around the world.
In 2003 WFP received the mandate from the High Level Committee on Management (HLCM) to provide air transport services to the whole humanitarian community.
WFP has implemented procedures to ensure that Air Carriers (AOC Holders) meet all international and the additional UN Aviation Standards. WFP Aviation Safety Unit evaluates risk assessment of Air Carriers and safety management system maturity level, and is mandated to monitor the Air Carriers level of compliance in relation to ICAO Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPs), as well as their rules and regulations as issued by their Regulatory Authorities. In this regard, WFP Aviation is underlining the requirement for Air Carriers to be self sufficient in terms of quality and safety systems.
